I really enjoyed this author (new-to-me) Joanna Schaffhausen and The Vanishing Season #1, which introduces Massachusetts police officer, Ellery "Ellie" Hathaway. I read this on audio and the narrator, Lauren Fortgang, made this an interesting and enjoyable read.

Carefully crafted plot with a dog in it. Serial killers don't usually get my vote, but this one is well done.
