Ignatius clearly knows the Middle East well, and demonstrates it in his depiction of Hani Salaam, who is by far the most fully fleshed character here. However, the main plot feels thin and the subplot between Ferris and his wife is absurd to the point of comedy. I can accept thinner characters in a spy novel if the plot makes up for it, but Ignatius needs to beef up his storylines in future outings to make me a fan.
