I liked this memoir of Presidential hopeful Pete Bittigieg. Every couple of years I pass through South Bend, Indiana on my way west, so I was eager to read about this innovative Mayor. I am definitely impressed but what he has accomplished, and I think that whatever he attempts in public office, he will do well. Certainly his time as Mayor has shown what he is capable of. More than anything: he reads!

If you are fascinated by South Bend, Indiana, dying to know what Pete's early life was like, and eager to see how he became mayor, you might enjoy the first three parts of this book . . . otherwise, you might be as bored as I was by those sections. But, on the plus side, if you want to get a sense of how Mayor Pete governs (I mean, really, isn't that why most of us are reading this book?), skip the first 145 pages and start with Chapter 8 (the second chapter in Part IV: Governing). I liked this book. Sadly even with a history of being a
political science major at UCLA and then serving as an officer in the Navy, I lost interest and faith in politics in my mid 20s. As I get older I recognize the need to educate myself on this subject regardless and I cannot do it based on the media and their various sensational viewpoints.
