Wow. Okay. I have an emo-hangover now. I'm trying to parse why: There is no huge plotsy cliffhanger twist or anything, but this book still was a gut-wrencher in the end. I won't say any more about that in order to avoid spoilers; just be aware that's the emotional register you're signing up for when you dive into this one. Personally, I did not think a book about two young people coming of age while having a very complex relationship would affect me all that much. I stand corrected!

Interesting observations of human behavior

I definitely think this book got me to think about human behavior and what is defined as normal by society. Marianne is a damaged girl and Connell has issues of his own. The book follows them through very influential times of growth in their lives and examined the dynamics of their relationships with themselves, each other and others. There are a one very thought provoking interactions and behaviors in the book. At times I wish the reader got more answer

Every time I thought what a boring read, I reminded myself of its title “Normal People”. The book is about normal people and normal people are boring, that’s the general consensus. There were good parts that excited me to continue reading but they were scarce.
