The title should be “Stupid Boring People.”
3.5 stars, rounded up bc why not. The book grapples with the infuriating questions of why relationships are so hard to navigate, power dynamics so inescapable and communication so difficult even when two people love each other deeply. I loved so much about the book--it's crushingly moving and beautifully written-- and very grateful someone can write about these things with such an original and sharp point of view. Towards the end though if felt like the plot and characters fell victim to polemic

I get that she was going with the theme, but I felt like she could’ve taken advantage of a few synonyms for ‘weird’ or ‘normal.’ If I ever read it again I’d try to count them. But I won’t read it again bc while I liked her writing, I found both main characters fairly unbelievable in their thoughts and actions.
