I watched this first and was entranced by the story. Having the characters and story come to life on screen helped make the book better. I appreciated more context and getting to read what Connell and Marianne were thinking in the book, but probably would've given the book 3-3.5 stars as a stand-alone. ...more

In spite of not liking the two protagonists, I did like the book. I also enjoyed the audio version due to the lilting Irish accent. I am interested in watching the Hulu version.

I enjoyed this book - a story of a relationship between labels and black and white characterizations and a story of young adult challenges and growth. It drew me in - at times I felt a little unclear of time and place but it still kept me engaged with good writing about the complexities of people and relationships. It went deeper into a relationship than most books I’ve read. You finish the book feeling you witnessed some special natural event - how people gravite to each other.

Well written, but depressing. I was frustrated with the characters throughout the book, and the ending did not make that any better.
