An intriguing memoir, this book tells the story of what happened to Jennifer McGaha and her family after they got into a deep financial hole, owing a lot of money for back taxes and other debts. Enjoyed this memoir of a couple who--due to financial woes/mismanagement--had to move out into the wooded hills to a leaky/smelly "old" cabin, and to forge a new way of life that was much more earthy and subsistence-level. I think it’s me. I sometimes can’t finish a memoir because I’m just so different from the author, and it becomes tiresome. This was true of this memoir, and I sped through to finish. I grew bored with this, and wasn’t sure what the point of it was.

I think someone else might find more redeeming qualities, but I just didn’t.

Interesting story about finding the silver lining but not really. The part about the goats is sweet and alive and I cared about the animals and all of the respect they were given. Other than that the writing wasn’t that interesting.

I found this book to be boring and repetitive. Thought it’d be a light easy read after reading about a family in North Vietnam living through the great hunger, land reform, and the many wars their country has experienced. It honestly was just delusional nonsense in comparison.
