This was interesting until it turned out to be going nowhere.
There is a point where two characters are talking through a funnel and she states that it takes a second to transfer from the ear to the mouth which makes the conversation seem very profound. Which is a lot like the writing in this novel. Short simple sentences make things seem deep and intelligent but it isn't always the case.

This books takes place on an unnamed island where things have inexplicitly begun to disappear. At first it is mostly random objects and while the objects themselves don't immediately disappear, people's ability to know what they are gradually fades. There are some people on the island who somehow retain the ability to remember these disappeared objects. The story follows a novelist as she navigates this reality.
