The narrative structure of Men We Reaped is an incredibly unique way to write a memoir. Alternating chapters expand on either Ward's extended family & the way she and her siblings were raised by their parents (these chapters are told chronologically from the distant past to the present), and then switch to stand-alone chapters that focus on each of the five young men in her life who died from drugs, accidents, or suicide.
