This was an incredibly powerful story about love and loss. It is so beautifully written, almost like poetry, and it is set in England and France. I read this on audiobook and the narrator made it enjoyable and seamless. It’s my first novel by Sarah Winman.

At the beginning I found the writing style annoying but once I had warmed to the characters I became so involved with them that I hardly noticed the style. A beautiful story of love and loss.

Wow, this book was good. It tells the story of two boys who are friends/lovers, and the woman one of them marries as an adult. The grief, love, and heartbreak of the characters was so palpable with every sentence. I was completely emotionally invested in the characters and I wanted to know more about them and what happened in some of the intervening years that weren't covered in the book. ...more
