I wish that I had not spent money to buy and read this prior to a book club. the library wait list was too long for me to wait. It seemed to me that this book was written on an elementary school age reading level. I found myself often being frustrated at the simplicity and lack of imagination of the descriptions. Another story of survival through the awful experience brought on by the Nazi party. Well written saga of well lived lives. Lale and Gita’s lives in Auschwitz are documented for eternity. The purpose is that we never forget the level of atrocity Nanking can reach. The reason for telling stories like this is to prevent it from happening again.
