Ultimately a book about friendship, and making the most of it. I found this book fascinating and funny. It could have felt sad and boring as it follows Hendrik's life in a care facility, but instead I found it hopeful and heartwarming. Definitely recommended.

A charming, sweet, and humorous book that took me a month to complete because charming and sweet and humorous as it was, it isn’t really a page turner. It did make me chuckle several times with recognition. A few months ago, we moved my grandmother into assisted living. It wasn't difficult for me to picture her in the old folks' home with Henk. I think fans of A Man Called Ove or The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared will like it.
