This book was not what I expected, so maybe that in part has to do with my lukewarm feelings towards it. Instead of an action-packed, suspenseful spy story, this is more a meditative look back at a woman's life, as she journals her experiences for her young twin boys (we learn the reason for this towards the end of the book). But the various parts of this book...growing up in NYC with her fierce, magnetic older sister, becoming an FBI agent, going on a covert mission in Africa and falling in lov ...more

If you take the time to wade through this tangled time line and you love the main character good for you. I gave up eventually when I had to keep skipping back to the chapter headings to establish a timeline. Also, for someone who hates “snitches” the protagonist seems okay with state sponsored violence and neo imperialism. If you want a plot synopsis, you can find that on lots of other reviews. I’ve read a lot of amazing narratives. This wasn’t one of them.
