Wow... Angie Cruz delivers a moving and touching story about a young Dominican girl married off and sent to NY in hopes of a better life for her and her family. This hits home as a New Yorker, growing up near Washington Heights and married to a huge and wonderful Dominican family. What a moving book. I can’t wait to recommend it to so many people!

3.5. Ana grows up a lot, not in the easiest of ways. She feels real, her family feels real, her troubles feel real. The pigeon episode made me cringe-laugh. Juan was not my favorite but when Ana put his accomplishments/successes/role expectations in perspective, that helped me. How the baby changes Ana and her views of/relationships with other people, that was interesting. Also liked the historical view on Washington Heights.
