I was incredibly pleased with the wrap up for this - it's nuanced and thoughtful, and was well laid out; you can see where earlier happenings led to the outcome in this book. This is the book where Vasya grows up; she comes into her own. And it is delightful. ...more

I loved this series! If you like folklore and fantasy, magic and war of good vs. evil (and the knowledge that a little of both lies within us), and adventure and even a little romance, this is the series for you.

This plot was well thought, well researched and well executed. A Russian glossary and historical notes were included in the book.
There were a lot of plot twists and they annoyed me because it made everything we had read prior (and several deaths) pointless. But in the end, I realised that it did depict humanity accurately and it did make the story believable, because nothing in real life IS ever purely black or white, and some real-life deaths ARE pointless.
