What Members Thought

Category: Something blue (blue cover)
Setting: Saudi Arabia (among others)
Yay: good representative of its genre - spy thriller; cute framing device of nosy UK small town neighbors
Nay: some phrases are repeated too often, too deus ex machina scene, a bit on the nose with the literal portrait but forgivable. I agree with the reviewer who wondered why the Louvre is on the cover when it was never mentioned, or mentioned tangentially only, in the book.

Despite some pretty exciting scenes in Dubai, this book seemed like too much of the same formula of his previous books. I thought it was interesting that he put in so many of the old characters (Sarah, Mikhail, Dina and Uzi), but then did not give them much to do. Had I not read previous books of his, I would not really understand the older characters. Still Silva is the only author that has held my interest for 11 books ( and of course I had to finish it).
My favorites are: the Confessor, The Me ...more

I don't await new entries in this series with the same energy I once did, and there's a part of me that wishes Silva would let Gabriel slip off into a well-earned retirement and move on with another character. That said, this one's a decent enough beach read.
