3.5 stars. I listened to this on audio after really enjoying the audiobook version of Hepworth's latest novel, The Mother-in-Law.
This was an entertaining, if a tad overwrought, suburban drama. The family secrets of Pleasant Court, a subdivision of Melbourne, Australia give the Desperate Housewives of Wisteria Lane a run for the money.

Entertaining, but for me the best part was that it took place in Australia and that Mia and Polly were so adorable. The other characters were fine, but it’s sort of like tuning into a weekly dramedy - some weeks I can tune in and others I can’t, but overall it doesn’t really affect the plot and it moves along without difficulty such that no effort is really required on my part when I turn in again.

Really enjoyed listening to this book. Wanted to find out how each family coped with the secrets they'd been keeping. ...more

This novel encapsulates everything that we think we know when we casually use the term that we never know what goes on behind closed doors. And if you have ever glanced at your neighbours and wondered what their lives are really like then you will love this book which explores this very concept and delves into the lives of five women who all live in Pleasant Court in Melbourne, Australia.

Fast paced, highly entertaining and guiltily so, especially considering the story doesn't have much substance or originality and homophobia seeps through much of it.
