What a book! There was so much suspense in this book that I had to put it down occasionally and just take a deep breath because I was holding my breath as I turned the pages. The story of Kia, a little girl who is abandoned by her family and who lives in the marshes of North Carolina, is heart-wrenching and sad, yet you find yourself being proud of her for her survival and for what she accomplishes.
