Back to the beginning of the Harry saga. So strange that the series starts in Sydney! The usual clever plot twists and dogged pursuit of the bad guy by Harry, who along the way has his regular fall from grace with his drinking and disregard of authority. Shame about the girl- I thought perhaps she was disposed of with unseemly haste.
I wish this title had been available in English a long time ago before I read The Redbreast. Harry's history is quite important To this series and some of his problems would have made a lot more sense to me when I read the latter book.

This is the first book in the Harry Hole mystery series. I found it interesting that even though the main character is a Norwegian police officer the whole book is set in Australia. Harry is sent to Sydney after a Norwegian girl is found raped and strangled. Harry pair up with an aboriginal police officer and they begin to wonder if this is the work of a serial killer. There was a lot about the history of the aboriginals and aboriginal stories in the book. Not as engaging as the two later entrie

This was my first Jo Nesbo's novel. Hated it. Cliched characters, bad writing, and terrible plot. Life is too short to waste it on bad crime books..
