This book was incredibly dry and dense. It focused mostly on US military policy against Native Americans, which just didn't interest me as much as a broader, more comprehensive historical retelling of indigenous history, especially in how it ironically managed to de-center Native voices and actions. The conclusion was more of what I was hoping for in this book: a scathing statement on the effects of colonialism on the indigenous population. A hard read only for the hard to argue with evidence of the purposeful, deliberate genocide by the American Colonists against the Indigenous Peoples of North America. There is no honor in this process, and no support of the fantasy of manifest destiny that I was fed as a schoolboy.
