The first chapter of this novel gave me the type of high that I'm forever searching for in books but find only rarely; it's that surge of something that feels like adrenaline. It has some difficult topics but it's a smooth read diaspora novel. I even googled some of the music and manga references. That said, I'm docking a star for using 2nd person POV and for not italicizing foreign words. I understand 2 of the three languages so I was thrown off by the Ilokano words. Thought they were English or Tagalog words that I could learn.
