My four stars are an average of five stars for the concept (because I believe any book that dares to take on the pro/anti-choice debate as openly and honestly as this one does deserves to be read and discussed) and three stars for the execution (which I think could have been better but wasn't all that bad). I like Jodi Picoult for how she shows different sides of an issue, but this story of a shooting/hostage situation at an abortion clinic was just too hard for me. It wasn’t the different opinions, but just sitting with (in) this for days that was difficult.

For me, this was a 3.5 book-I thought the various perspectives and circumstances really flushed out a variety of reasons people come to a clinic such as this. And as a result it underscored the need for dialogs and listening. It would be a tough novel to discuss at a book club and likely wouldn’t persuade readers to a different point of view than s/he already has.
