Wow! So Interesting, hard to read in places but so glad I did. There aren’t many narratives of slavery in the words of the captured themselves. This powerful story as told to the legendary Zoe’s Neale Hurston is a must read. #ownvoices #diversereading
The transcripts of Ms. Hurston's interview with Oluale Kossola, also known as Cudjo Lewis, were fascinating, and I'd give that part of the book 5 stars. The transcripts are about half of the book. The rest of the book contains introductions (yes, plural), prefaces, notes, glossary, an afterword, and other various items tangentially related to Africa, the Middle Passage, and life after slavery was abolished.
