***1/2 This was an interesting who-dunnit with many twists and turns. One thing truly bugged me: the whole idea of an awful and abusive husband is old. It’s accurate here, with two or several wives (sigh), involved with him. I also almost didn’t read it because of the title.... do we really need another novel with women fighting (or are they?) for the same unworthy bastard?

I’m amazed at how much I disliked this book. It was like the perfect storm of bad.

I wonder if she feels my stare. Gaze detection, it’s called—our ability to sense when someone is observing us. An entire system of the human brain is devoted to this genetic inheritance from our ancestors, who relied on the trait to avoid becoming an animal’s prey. A really cleverly structured thriller. Some sections made me not sure which characters I should be rooting for, which I guess was the intention of the authors.

It was okay, seemed a little like I’d read this book before. I would give another book of theirs a try as I did like the story’s pacing and layered perspectives.
