My students are currently in book clubs that focus on the Middle East conflict and human rights issues. This is one of the books we chose. The students who picked this book for their book club work are hooked. I found this book powerful and it gave me, a white American woman, a realistic perspective of what the Syrian refugees have to go through. There were some parts of the book that felt rushed and a little clunky, but overall, the purpose was met.

I wanted an quick read. This book was at my local library and it's not too long. Even though it's a YA book, it was well worth the read. It follows a 15 year old who's lost most of his family through bombing in the Syrian War. As a refugee, his travel take him to Raqqa, Turkey, Greece and eventually Germany.
