The best recounting I've read of the early Christian church, not because it is the most accurate, but because it is the most relevant to living today. Carrere uses his autobiographical writing to infuse the early apostles with more life than I've ever felt from the New Testament. His literary musings on what the writers of the New Testament were doing is superb.
