Normally I frown at the idea of another writer taking another writer's creation. And in this case taking up as a writing project Raymond Chandler's great and very distinctive detective, Phillip Marlowe, would seem to be utter folly. In fact, I'm surprised I even started it, though I admit to being curious after seeing some high ratings from trusted Goodreads friends.
