I loved this book. Dennis Lehane is a fine writer, and he can spin a great, gritty yarn. This one came with a pretty controversial ending, an ending that really stayed with me even more so than the similar denouement in the film.

Can't wait to read the rest of this series. I know it's a faux pas, but I'm going to do "Moonlight Mile" next, and only after that go back and do the other books in the bunch.

This is the best of the series so far, filled with incredible characters, a compelling and complex plot, and, of course, great scenes in and around Boston. It is violent and brutal in places but the violence is always offset by the hero, Patrick Kenzie's insightful and often heart-breaking observations on how people and how society has come to be as they/it is. This is a real classic. ...more

The twists and turns in this one are fantastic, and Lehane closes with his trademark level of ambiguity on the right and wrong thing to do in morally grey situations. His ability to give Kenzie and Gennaro a rich and complex world to move in is probably my favorite part of this series.
