This started out as a five star read. She described the Irish countryside so beautifully and I loved the paranormal aspect. The two main characters had an interesting "chemistry" and it was developing really well. The author's voice is unique and I was amazed this was her first book.

In 1976 a young man returns to the small Irish town where he was born to find out what happened to his mother, who disappeared when he was a baby, Sounds good, I'm on board. What I wasn't so sure I was on board for is the ghosts. Because the young man can see ghosts, and I'm just not generally into cross-pollinating my murder stories with the supernatural. This dark mystery is set in a small village in Ireland in contemporary times but switches back and forth to an earlier time period to uncover a really horrendous whodunnit. The cast of characters in the small village are all keeping some of their own secrets and we slowly learn about who they are in relation to the main character.....Mahoney....Himself.
