I love this book! Jonathan Auxier, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated chidren's book writer. How come we never heard of him? If it's not because his other book, Peter Nimble, that luckily has been translated to Indonesian, I'd probably wouldn't know anything about him.
Anyway, this book is a perfect combination of adventures, mystery, family relationships, with a touch of horror and darkness inside. LOVE it.

I would like to pat myself on the back for being such a brave mom and reading this aloud to my 10-year-old at bedtime. At one point this book got so scary that my daughter and I busted out laughing. Her whole body was shaking, and she had the sheets clenched under chin. I was jumping at every little sound I heard behind me as I read by a booklight (that seemed to shrink and dim as my fear flared). Who was I kidding reading this at bedtime? juuuuust creepy enough that it was the limit for my 7 and 10 year olds, but such an enjoyable audiobook with an important lesson at the heart of it.
