Shelves: memoir
A powerful and interesting memoir about a rarely told experience -- that of a childhood steeped in ultraleft politics. Said's parents were leaders in and deeply committed to the Socialist Workers Party throughout his childhood; this had a profound affect on him and his well-being. I found it disappointing that he had little reflection on his current politics and choices, and how those were shaped in opposition to his childhood experiences. This is a moving and fascinating book about the authors life growing up as child of Socialist Worker Party activists and being half Iranian during the time of the hostage crisis.
