It's not as beautiful as Glass Castle, or as melancholy as Tuesdays with Morrie. But Tara Westover has successfully mesmerized me with her story. A true story that feels weirder than fiction. Moreover, it happened in modern day America!!

Tara Westover is more of an academic than a fiction writer, that's why some of the parts lacked of continuity and flows, and I felt disconnected with the characters. I my opinion, Tara can describe deeper about her family characters, and ...more

I started out with 4 stars and then bumped it to 5 because of how heartbroken I am over this book. She writes beautifully and honestly about her Mormon upbringing in a way that didn’t make me bad about being one myself.

This was such a great book. Almost an unbelievable story. I am so impressed by her willpower and accomplishments. One person’s struggle, perseverance and ultimate success against very difficult and compelling circumstances. Definitely the best book I read in 2019.
