Non-fiction that reads like a novel. Tara Westover reveals an unforgettable tale of growing up with her five siblings and survivalist parents in rural Idaho. Her parents don't believe in public education
(or doctors, etc, for that matter), and the opening scene of the book begins with Westover watching from a distance as a school bus drives by their home. This story keeps you reading and the language keeps you entranced. Beautiful writing. At first I thought this was going to be about bad homeschooling and I didn't want to read it. It's not. It is a family story. A big, messed up family. They love, yell, abuse, support... It's also about nature, urban vs. wilderness, morals, values and growing up against all odds.
