A bit of a bridge between Backman’s works: Britt-Marie is as punctilious as A Man Called Ove, and Borg is as nuts about soccer as the folks of Beartown are hockey. Once again Backman writes characters who will challenge you, make you laugh, make you cry, and who are so unapologetically human that you can’t help falling for them.

A really sweet story about a character we’ve met in a previous Backman book, Britt-Marie. Very enjoyable, and in the author’s true style, creates a character you can’t help but love. This story lacked some of the physical descriptions and clarity that some of B’s other books had, and I felt that the message was perhaps more heavy handed, but ultimately if there was a sequel telling me where Britt-Marie has ended up, I would read it in a heartbeat. I love this author. The way he makes such simple moments so beautiful and significant is mesmerizing. The characters can be so odd and so seemingly unlikeable, and then they become so endearing and relatable. Really so sweet and enjoyable to read his stories.
