This is a very nice, well written compact book from a Japanese writer. The story is about Keiko Furukura who always feels that she is different from people in general. She thinks her calling in life is being a convenience store worker, and she doesn't understand why people can't accept her calling. She's not interested in pursuing a high level career, she's not interested in getting married or having children. Strange, spare story about a unique woman finding her way in the world. I kept expecting something jarring or shocking to happen but the story just kept creeping along. Are we truly basic animals? How do we find our place in the world and how much do our roles as workers fit into our view of ourselves. I suspect I’ll be thinking about this book for awhile. #Japan #audio
