The Story
An Aussie corporate retreat’s team-building exercise goes badly wrong. Agent Aaron Falk is brought in to find out what went wrong in the wilderness of a national park. The story is made more interesting by the mean girl dynamics hanging on between two Old Girls of a very posh girls’ boarding school who have endured the school’s year-long outback program together years ago. Now their daughters are at the pricey school. Is all well? How about the family-owned business that brought them he ...more

This second Aaron Falk novel didn't sit with me as well as the first one. A corporate trip into the Giralang Ranges, the site of several previous murders, ups the ante on the creepy factor when things start to spiral out of control in the women's group. A series of mishaps leads then to an almost "Lord of the Flies" scenario, and much of the novel is spent alternating between the present investigation and the events which lead to the loss of one of the members of the party. I read this shortly after The Dry and even thought her first book did not really impress me, I really liked this one. The settings could not be more different - Force of nature takes place in a mysterious, wild area of forest called the Giralong Ranges. Enjoyed this audiobook with a great Australian narrator. Ah, there's just something about that Aussie accent...The book moved well and I really liked the way the story unfolded, going between Falk and his inquiry and the actual events that the hikers were going through. Nice pacing in unfolding the climax--kept good suspense. Listened to on my iPhone; borrowed from the library.

Five women and five men are sent on a corporate retreat in the wilderness for four days on separate teams. One of the women doesn't make it out. Aaron Falk and his new partner become involved because the woman who disappeared was helping them with a fraud case against the company she worked for. I appreciated the wilderness descriptions and the creepiness that increased after the womans team became lost. I wish there was more about Falk in the book and more information about the five woman on th
