This is the second book in the mystery series featuring Captain Wyndham and Sergeant Banerjee. Set in India in 1920, the two detectives end up investigating the murder of an Indian Prince in the sovereign state of Sambalpore.

The plot has a pretty good, even though I did guess the villain before the end. And the character development of the two detectives is pretty good.

There was a lot more about the women of the story in this book, which I appreciated. Captain Wyndham also kept being forced to

Already I love this series. The Indian setting and atmosphere, the wry humour with which it is written, and the plot twists all have me hooked. I'll be following Wyndham and his wingman Sergeant Banerjee to the end of the series. Although GR says it is not yet published, (why?), this book has been around for some time! Some of the language and behaviour would not be considered acceptable now, but perfectly fits the time in which the book is set. I didn't want it to finish. ...more

It's 1920 and Sam Wyndham and his partner Sergeant Banerjee are meeting with the heir to the throne of Sambalpore. before they can find out much more than that he received two strange messages the heir is assassinated. They soon find the atatcker but Sam thinks there's more to the case so he finagles a way for the two of them to attend the funeral in Sambalpore, which isn't directly under British rule.
