Perveen Mistry is the first female lawyer in India. She is helping her father deal with the estate of Omar Farid who left behind three wives who all live in purdah (seclusion). Since Perveen is a female she can interview the wives and find out why they all state that they want to sign their inheritance over to a charity. Like Maisie Dobbs but set in India in the 1920s. I really enjoyed learning more about the Parsi population and Zoroastrianism. The mystery isn't much of a mystery but a good human story. The characters are all ones you are ready to read more about, especially Ms. Mistry.
