What Members Thought

An explosive opening gives way to a slow-burn narrative that explores the eroding relationship between perfect nanny Louise and the parents of her charges while simultaneously charting Louise's own psychological degradation. The tension builds and then the book concludes rather abruptly. I don't have a problem with open-endings, but the book leaves a few too many questions (ie. the fates of at least two pivotal characters) unanswered.

I was shivering from the very first sentence. The writer knows too well what is meant to be a mother as well as a woman with ambitions. The claustrophobia, the anxiety, the worry. Nightmares of all mothers. Being parents, sharing responsibility, desperately needs help from third person...all parents know that too well. A good reminder not to depend too much on your nanny and always paying attention to your kids nomatter how busy you are.

Found it gripping right from the beginning. A quick read, but not a light one. Quite disturbing. Would have given it a five, but didn't feel like I had enough information to satisfy me at the end.
