An American Marriage is a beautifully told story about a young, black couple that struggles to stay connected when the husband is sent to prison for a crime he did not commit. It’s about the intimacy of marriage and the personal toll of an unjust criminal justice system.

This book brings up so much. It’s a love story and a brutal look at race and class in America. An American Marriage touched so many emotions. I found myself empathizing with each character in a different way and at different times. The concept of home and what that means will sit firmly in your soul for a long time after reading this book.
