Even if the Taliban were gone, women in Afghaniston would still be treated as second class citizens. Altho this is a book of fiction, the customs, the culture, the "traditions" are all real. Apparently only women are punished for being "amoral" even when they are actually the victims. So sad.

I hardly could put this book down! Truth to be told, I was sceptical about it at first. The description sounded like a damsel in distress theme happening in a war ridden third word country.
BUT it is such a well written book with so many twists and unexpected turns of events. Characters are solid and the narrative really enjoyable! I am intrigued to read Hashimi’s other novels now.
