Difficult story. Beautiful sentences. (A little long in Part 2.)

I wanted to be all Pearl, but try as I might, I could only be myself.

This book, told from the point of view of the twins Pearl and Stasha, follows what happens to their lives as part of a selected group who were Mengele's twin experimental subjects in Auschwitz. It is also about family, and the bond between twins in particular. Everything is made very clear, but it is more about what is not said than what is graphically described. The story is gripping and I found it compulsively readable, though at times very sad. ...more

Wow! Powerful story, beautifully written. I really appreciated how strong and brave the characters were, otherwise the story may have been too difficult to get through. I will be thinking about this one for a long time to come.
