The astrology and ultimately the predictability of the unreliable narrator diminished the overall impact for me. I should have seen it coming since Pluto was in retrograde and not even a planet.
That experience when you reach for a warm fuzzy unchallenging romance between a dragon and a sprite, or two enemies to lover African folklore assassins, or a fake-date heterovaganza -- and find yourself instead 10% into a Nobel Prize piece of Literature. @-@
Sometimes I read books that have won awards and wonder what I missed while others gave rave reviews . This book won a Nobel Prize for literature and there is no question in my mind that I deserved this much praise. Great book which taught me to look at things in different ways. I was especially taken by comments on how difficult or impossible to translate poetry from one language to another without not ruining the meaning and/or the rhythm.
It was really slow for me. The main character is definitely intriguing but sometimes she goes off on tangents and I lost interest and I struggled to finish it.
