So I read A Man Called Ove and found it mediocre, I liked Brit-Marie was Here more, but this book is absolute perfection. I cannot believe the man who wrote it is only 36 years old. I don't even like hockey but this is about so much more than hockey. The premise, the setting, the tragic event and the consequences which affect so many people were so beautifully told. I'm a sucker for the sports narrative since my youth, so Beartown had that going for it, but then it seemed to try and do everything for everybody, picking up on hot topics of the day and cramming them into a sports narrative. Basically, the puck missed the net.

The pace on this book felt like watching Law & Order. Brief scene to brief scene the author attempts to either leave the reader w a cliffhanger OR say something REALLY, REALLY profound. Blah. I was so sick of the writing formula, the awful dialogue and the ridiculously unbelievable (and large) cast of characters that I really should have stopped reading...but there were SO MANY positive reviews.
