Probably because it has YA as one of its target audiences, the points behind the story are obvious, but important. As it is based on a true life incident, the book shows how one person can make a big difference in the lives of others. In this case the main protagonist and, the real person on whom the story is centered, was responsible for saving half of the survivors of a small Polish village during WWII.

4.5 stars. A worthy addition to the Holocaust literature, and a wonderful tale for children (11 and up).
