This one hopped up from two to three stars when I read the epilogue and learned many of the characters were real people. Love me some accurate historical fiction.
The book is chockfull of romantic cliches, but it was an easy read and I can’t say I hated it since I wanted to reach the end and see her wrap up every bit of the story (which she predictably did).

1) The story caught my interest right away. It has a hook. I never got bored.
2) The reading is light so it moved along without my feeling the need to do extensive research on interesting events or references.
3) Interesting history. The story is set within actual events and contains actual historical people. ( The main characters who carry the actions are fictional.)

This fulfilled three criteria I have for a great book: I really care about the characters, it is a really interesting story line, and the writing holds my interest. I never knew anything about the female spies in WWI. I really got into the characters of Eve and Charlie. It was kind of a gritty read at what people had to do to survive during the war. and the women were daring and unconventional - but I should have expected that in women who would dare to put themselves in danger.
