The story was great. The writing was really really not great. I powered through, but that's what made this one a three-star for me. ...more

The book alternates between telling the story of Charlie St. Clair in 1945 and Eve Gardiner in 1915. charlie is 19 and pregnant. I will miss the characters now that I have finished the book. I can see why people were drawn to the WW1 story more than WWII, but both taught me something about the times. And I found the growth of Charlie realistic and helpful for moving the story ahead. Eve is the more interesting of the two women, but I felt like the story trajectories assisted one another in a very complementary manner and kept my interest.
