I always enjoy her stand-alones less than I enjoy her Tess Monaghan novels, and this was no exception. It was compelling enough -- kept me turning the pages -- but the ultimate resolution felt rushed, flat and contrived, and I didn't really buy it as a choice the main character would have made, at least not from the background Lippman gave us. Shelves: stand-alone, mystery
Not quite as powerful as some of her other standalone work due to its heavy character development before the plot really swings into action, but raises some interesting questions about how well we can really tell our own life stories when we're so embroiled in them. ...more
