I was very excited that Zevin was releasing a new book. The subject matter piqued my interest immediately. This book was not what I expected, but I still enjoyed it very much. I believe I was expecting a deeper exploration of the subject matter, especially concerning the Senator and his unaffected career. In retrospect I realize the book is consistent with her style. Absolutely loved it. Smart, hilarious, and thoroughly enjoyable. Great characters, great story.
Aviva Grossman is in college and an intern for Congressman Levin. The two have an affair and when it's discovered Aviva is the one criticized by the media and she's unable to find a job while the congressman keeps his job. The book focuses on the lives of Aviva, her mother and the congressman's wife Embeth. It's an easy read but also brings up important issues about how females are treated. This book is very relevant in the #metoo era.
