I’m giving this book five stars because it made me realize that I am, in fact, not a sick puppy. Thank you, Nick Cutter, for helping me remember that.
This is horror at its old school best. Not for the faint of heart as there are some pretty brutal, violent scenes.
This was easily the most disturbing book I have ever read.
The story follows five scout boys and their scoutmaster to an island and what occurs when a "stranger" turns up suddenly on their first night. I am not usually drawn to horror genre but for some reason I was curious to read this. A field trip on an isolated island takes a horrific turn for a group of young boys when their scout leader welcomes an emaciated stranger into their camp. It’s a horror version of Lord of Flies that is at turns harrowing, humorous, and thoroughly engaging. Wonderfully written. It’s heads and shoulders above most novels in the genre.
Well-written, scary, gross, and even touching, but too many scenes of torture for me.
